A lot of eyebrows had been raised when Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini decided to sign his former player Martin Demichelis in the summer. Although an experienced defender, many questioned Pellegrini’s logic behind signing a 33-year old player who was entering the twilight of his career.
After a delay in making his debut for the club due to a knee injury, Demichelis hardly covered himself in glory early on in his City career with some very shaky performances at the heart of the defence. Demichelis came under further scrutiny after giving away two high-profile penalties against Barcelona in the Champions League and Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup, which led to the fans calling for the defender to be axed.

Demichelis had been widely criticized by the Manchester City fans for his shaky performances earlier on in the season
However, despite all the criticism coming the defender’s way, Pellegrini persisted with Demichelis and it is now fair to say that the 33-year old has repaid his manager’s faith.
Demichelis has formed a fine partnership alongside Vincent Kompany recently, which had seen City go on a run of five matches without conceding a single goal before Mathieu Flamini breached the Citizens backline in the weekend and such a fine streak has seen critics dramatically change their opinion of the 33-year old.
The defender has now revealed that he has received a lot of kind messages from the City supporters and added that despite his costly mistakes a few months back, he is full of confidence.

He said, “I welcome those messages. My confidence is very high and I feel I am in really good form and am happy to help the team. It’s true that I conceded penalties in two different competitions, and it’s true they were punctual mistakes, but I am not in bad shape and am full of confidence.
“I could have been worried, for example, that Olivier Giroud might win all the high balls, but he didn’t, and I could have been late into the challenges, but I wasn’t. I felt I played well at Arsenal and my form is high – and the positive messages are good.”
Demichelis has made 27 appearances for City so far during the current campaign and looks set to play a big role in the club’s title run-in from now till the end of the season.
